The Guardian or Pink Drifter (unofficial names) is the first character encountered by The Drifter who is not an enemy.
History EditThe Guardian is first encountered in a cutscene, where they are seen caring for the unconscious Drifter near a campfire. When The Drifter comes to, they are inside The Guardian's Home.
Later in the game, The Guardian can be found at each of the four temples, providing the Drifter with helpful information on the locations of the Modules. When talked to, they say that they found an object very reminiscent of the glowing white diamond The Drifter was looking for, before The Drifter was dragged away by shadowy tentacles.
They also appear to have contracted the same illness as The Drifter, as they have a chronic cough.
Lore & Story Analysis Edit
We meet The Guardian a few times during the game. On the first and last meeting they tell the Drifter their tale.
The Guardian's entire family is affected by a sickness. After some time, their wife and child succumb to the sickness. The Guardian then sets out to follow The Jackal from their visions. Eventually their travels led them to the Central Town.
Here they have stayed, searching for the Modules that will eventually lead them to the Immortal Cell. During their time here they saved many people and travelers from the creatures in the surrounding wilderness. The Merchant in the city tells the story of how they were saved, along with their companion.
It's quite clear that the residents of the Central Town respect The Guardian.

The Guardian's dialogue Edit
- Occasionally, when returning to the Guardian's home, they can be found there working on a console.
- It is possible to "save" The Pink Drifter. If you do not interact with them in the North, East, or West Zones they will survive in the South Zone.
- However, eventually interacting with them in all four areas will result in them dying as usual in whichever area you speak to them last.
