The Guardian or Pink Drifter (unofficial names) is the first character encountered by The Drifter.
History EditThe Guardian is first encountered in a cutscene, where he is seen caring for the unconscious Drifter near a campfire. When The Drifter comes to, he is found resting in the Guardian's home.
Later in the game, The Guardian can be found at each of the four temples, providing the Drifter with helpful information on the locations of the Modules. When talked to, he says that he found an object reminiscent of the glowing white diamond The Drifter was looking for, as seen in the intro cutscene. This object is revealed to be the Immortal Cell. The Guardian is infected with the same disease as The Drifter, which seems to worsen the more you progress and leads to his eventual demise.
Lore & Story Analysis Edit
We meet The Guardian a few times during the game. On the first and last meeting he tells the Drifter his tale.
The Guardian's entire family was affected by a sickness. After some time, their wife and child succumb to the disease. The Guardian then sets out to follow The Jackal from their visions. Eventually their travels led them to the Central Town.
Here they have stayed, searching for the Modules that will eventually lead them to the Immortal Cell. During their time here he saved many people and travelers from the creatures in the surrounding wilderness. The Merchant in the city tells the story of how they were saved by The Guardian, along with their companion.
It's quite clear that the residents of the Central Town respect The Guardian.

The Guardian's dialogue Edit
- Occasionally, when returning to the Guardian's home, he can be found there interacting with a console.
- It is possible to "save" The Pink Drifter. If you do not interact with him in the North, East, or West Zones, he will survive in the South Zone.
- However, eventually interacting with him in all four areas will result in him dying as usual in whichever area you speak to him last.
